New Community Center

Creating a New Purpose

The former Otto Middle School that once educated generations of Lansing residents has been shuttered for more than a decade. Once a critical part of the community, the building has become a symbol of disinvestment and lack of opportunity for former students, neighbors, and Lansing residents. The Advancement Corporation, acquired the structure in 2021 with the vision of transforming the building into a dynamic community center that will bring opportunity to residents who have suffered tremendous losses as a result of years of disinvestment, decline, and pandemic-related problems. Work on the site is currently underway with a goal of completing Phase I in the summer of 2022 and full completion by 2025.

With funding, the vacant school will become a community recreation center as well as a nonprofit hub that will bring more than 30 organizations together under one roof for a one-stop-shop approach to helping members of our community get the help and services they need in the most convenient way possible.
